There’s no doubt that the brunette Tisdale of today is not the same blonde Tisdale of the Suite Life’s heyday. While the HSM spin-off, Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure, was only just released on DVD this spring, it corresponded with something of a coming out for Tisdale—the grownup Tisdale. Pick up a May edition of Allure magazine and you’ll find the 25-year-old actress with nothing but her birthday suit and a “Believe” tattoo down the middle of her back to speak of.
Of her leap outside the Disney box, the actress explains: “When that opportunity came along … I thought long and hard about it. Allure is a well-known and respected women's magazine and they had Patrick Demarchelier shooting it! Since it is something the magazine does every year, and it is about being comfortable with who you are, I decided to do it.”
Known to frequent the upper rows of fashion shows when not stepping out for “Fashion’s Night Out,” Tisdale was obviously giddy at the thought of working with legendary fashion photographer Demarchelier. “It was amazing! He is one of the top photographers and I was so excited to have the opportunity to work with him,” she gushes. “He puts everyone around him at ease, works quickly, and he knows exactly what he wants. I hope I get to work with him again someday.”
While in the know when it comes to industry players and reigning trends, Tisdale is the opposite of a high-maintenance slave to fashion. There’s something distinctly California about this New Jersey-native’s style and person in general. The combination of the actress’s laid-back attitude (she’s a dream to work with on the Hardly shoot, and days off set consist of sleeping in and dinner with cast) and her fashion sense evoke beachscapes speckled with pristine white umbrellas and pillow-laden deck chairs.
“I hope my style has evolved over the years and improved!” she laughs when asked to describe her personal style. “How I dress all depends on how I feel that day and what I am doing. If I am running errands I might be bohemian chic. If I am spending the day at the beach I will dress very California girl. I also love a tougher, edgy look now and then, and when I am working in Vancouver [the set of Hellcats], I like to wear layers.” The actress, who filmed Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure on location in Toronto, lists Holt Renfrew and Aritzia as two of her favourite places to shop when working in Canada.

“I love the opportunities social networking gives me to communicate with my fans,” she says. “It is also a great way to set the record straight if misinformation is out there [and] it is allows me to stay in touch with family and friends I don't see all the time.” A creature of her own skin, Tisdale is comfortable where she’s at, and—though managing a mammoth daily schedule—enjoying the ride as it winds its way around. She waxes: “I like to go day by day and try not to put things on a timeline.”
